What is Lock Snapping?

Lock snapping is one of the most common methods burglars use to break into homes with uPVC or composite doors. Standard euro cylinder locks have a weak point in the centre. By applying force, a burglar can snap the lock in half and expose the internal mechanism, allowing them to open the door in seconds.

How Do Anti-Snap Locks Work?

Anti-snap locks (also known as snap-safe locks) are specifically designed to combat this threat. They feature a sacrificial snap line near the front of the cylinder.

• Sacrificial Cut: If a burglar attempts to snap the lock, it breaks cleanly along this sacrificial line.
• Mechanism Protection: Anti-snap cylinders use security features designed to help protect the locking mechanism if the cylinder is attacked. Exact behaviour depends on the cylinder design.
